There is a lack of diversity among physicians that has not changed in more than 80 years. Black people are underrepresented in medicine, representing approximately 5% of US doctors, and experts warn this harms public health. Even fewer, are Black men, representing less than 2% of US doctors. At Cook County Physicians Association, we are doing everything in our power to address physician shortage by providing financial support through scholarships and social support through mentorship for medical students in the Chicagoland area.
